Some hours ago, we received news flying every where like it has been happening all through the weeks after the AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire.
Journalists, coaches, administrators, pundits, players and fans from all over the world that have the interest of Nigerian football at heart have been in suspense regarding the appointment of a new coach and how the NFF intends to move our national team forward.
George Finidi was appointed in the short interim as Head Coach to handle two games and we all saw him and his team in action within that short period.
Before I drive you guys on, let me say a sound congratulations to George Finidi for his appointment as the manager of the Super Eagles of Nigeria. I pray he is able to work with his team of coaches to deliver something special to Nigerians and make us all proud.
It took almost 6 weeks for the NFF to come out and announce a coach after they announced Finidi as interim coach sometime in March. Well, let’s say this is a sensitive position and they need more time.
A step further. Is it that the technical department of the NFF is having serious issues and are currently in chaos without the piblic knowing it, or they are just short of apt and professional ideas toward the appointment of their managers still?
Formerly, we know the NFF Chairman did the job of almost everyone at the glass house. He would play the role of agent, psychologist, technical department, media, and also the day to day running of the federation which also shouldn’t be his role as president. Are we still in that same Era? I am just being curious but have lived in societies where such institutions are handled differently anyway. I don’t intend to criticize anyone at this point, especially regarding the subject.
The techniacal department definitely seem not professional enough at this point. If they can’t be the ones in control of the appointment of a manager then we are still in no way a step away from the wrong admistrative style adapted years ago.
Major news outlets know we are a joke, since it seems we don’t know what we are doing or at least we are presenting ourselves in that manner.
Wasn’t George Finidi been considered for the job or interviewed all this while? Didn’t they negotiate terms with him or his agents? What project is he coming on board with? What have they been doing all the while? Why make Nigeria seem so unprofessional in the manner inwhich they have treated this appointment?
Another step forward. George Finidi is finally announced the new manager of the Super Eagles without the technical department knowing his salaries, duration of appointment, and his assistants. They just put up an announcement out there. Is this a new style of management some of us are yet to learn from?
Let’s take a dive together. The entire nation knows how this position has put everyone under suspense and caused not only chaos but a huge divide and fight amongst football stakeholders all over the place.
Is it because George is a Nigerian that this appointment has been treated in this manner. I don’t think so. I can remember the appointments of Austin Eguaveon and how smooth and detailed it all happened. Is George been setup to fail or what? Why not employ him in the normal way and give him the chance and see what he can offer instead of putting such a veil around him. Since you picked him, then why not be professional in the way you appoint him. Why show the world you disregard your fellow Nigerians, when it comes to giving them the job of managing the Super Eagles. It isn’t that a Nigerian coach hasn’t won anything special. Sure the records show a Nigerian coach achieved almost similarly to what the foreign coaches have also achieved.
The Ministry of Sports is also key, especially when we talk about the development of football in Nigeria and specifically, the Super Eagles. They have been the cash out for the NFF when it comes to the salary of the foreign coaches at several moments and have stepped in to save the face of the NFF during trying times. Are they also a part of such a style of appointment?
We definitely have to look at other atmospheres and try to do things rightly in our own environment and for our own people. I beleive thats the only way to achieve sound development on the longrun. Who are we still listening or learning from at this point? To me it seems some people are intentionally setting up failure in the subject matter for selfish reasons.
Now, it isn’t of me to decide but to watch, make reports at will, and hope someone decides on changing the operational style of the entire technical department of the NFF someday. It has taken them too long to deliver anything near a longterm developmental project since they have been on board.
My humble submission.
