Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have clinched a place in the semifinals of the 2025 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations and, more importantly, secured qualification for the FIFA U-20 World Cup following a dramatic penalty shootout win against Senegal in Ismailia.
With both teams unable to break the deadlock after 120 minutes of football, the encounter was decided by penalties. The Nigerians kept their composure, converting their spot-kicks to edge past the Young Lions of Teranga and seal a spot in the final four.
The victory marks Nigeria’s return to the FIFA U-20 World Cup for the first time since 2019, ending a six-year wait. It also extends their continental dominance, making it a record 15th time the Flying Eagles will be appearing at the tournament — the most by any African nation.
