Chelsea capped off a flawless domestic campaign with a resounding 3-0 victory over Manchester United in the Women’s FA Cup final, thanks to a standout performance from Sandy Baltimore, who scored twice and provided an assist at Wembley Stadium.
The win marked a remarkable achievement for manager Sonia Bompastor in her first season in charge. After already guiding Chelsea to the Conti Cup and an unbeaten run to the Women’s Super League title, the FA Cup triumph sealed a domestic treble without a single loss.
The match began with United enjoying a brief spell of pressure, winning early corners and testing Chelsea keeper Hannah Hampton. But the Blues absorbed the pressure and slowly took control of the game.
Just before the interval, Erin Cuthbert was brought down in the box by Celin Bizet, and Baltimore calmly converted the resulting penalty, giving Chelsea a deserved 1-0 lead heading into the break.
Chelsea continued to grow into the game in the second half, with substitute Catarina Macario making an immediate impact. After narrowly missing a chance minutes after coming on, the American forward doubled the lead in the 84th minute, heading home from a pinpoint Baltimore free-kick.
Baltimore rounded off a brilliant individual display in stoppage time, smashing in her second goal after the fourth official indicated ten additional minutes. The goal extinguished any faint hopes of a United comeback and sealed another dominant display from the London club.
United had a few moments of promise, Dominique Janssen missed a clear chance in the first half, and Ella Toone forced a save from Hampton after coming on, but they were ultimately outclassed by a Chelsea side that showed why they’ve been unbeatable this season.
With England manager Sarina Wiegman and high-profile guests like Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian in attendance, Chelsea delivered a performance worthy of the occasion, lifting their third major trophy of the season and underlining their dominance in women’s football.
