Ahmed Musa, the long-standing captain of the Super Eagles, has exited the national team’s camp ahead of their final Unity Cup showdown against Jamaica, SoccerBytes can confirm.
Musa came off the bench in the 60th minute during Nigeria’s thrilling 2-1 victory over Ghana—a result that booked their ticket to Saturday’s final. However, the veteran forward will not be part of that matchday squad.
According to inside sources, his departure was authorized by head coach Eric Chelle, who recently recalled Musa to the squad after a lengthy absence. Musa, now playing for Kano Pillars in the Nigeria Premier Football League, made his first international appearance in over a year and a half against Ghana.
The reason for his early exit? His wedding, scheduled for June 1st in Kaduna. With the final taking place on May 31st, the 31-year-old chose to travel ahead of time to prepare for the ceremony.
Coach Chelle is expected to make a decision on Musa’s future involvement with the Super Eagles as the team gears up for World Cup qualification matches in September.
