Tragedy Strikes as 20 Kano Contingent Members Die in Road Crash After Sports Festival
At least 20 members of the Kano State contingent returning from the just-concluded National Sports Festival in Ogun State have died in a fatal road accident in Kura Local Government Area.
According to The Independent Mirror, the vehicle carrying the team veered off a bridge and crashed around 9 a.m. on Saturday, just as they were nearing the end of their long journey back to Kano.
Ado Salisu Gama, one of the survivors, said the tragic incident occurred after the team had been on the road since Thursday night, following the festival’s conclusion.
The victims include athletes, journalists, medical staff, sports administrators, and the vehicle’s driver.
Kano State was among the states that competed at the National Sports Festival, where its athletes earned a total of 29 medals across various events.
