Chelsea Opt Out of Jadon Sancho Deal, Face £5 Million Penalty
Chelsea have decided not to sign Jadon Sancho on a permanent deal from Manchester United this summer, according to reports.
The decision means Chelsea will now pay a five million pound penalty fee to United, as part of the agreement that brought Sancho to Stamford Bridge on a season-long loan last summer.
Sancho joined Chelsea after falling out of favour with United manager Erik ten Hag. During his loan spell, the England international scored five goals and provided ten assists in 41 appearances across all competitions.
Chelsea had an option to make the move permanent for twenty-five million pounds, but according to The Athletic, the UEFA Conference League winners failed to agree personal terms with the winger.
Sancho, who was signed by United from Borussia Dortmund in a seventy-two point nine million pound deal in 2021, still has one year remaining on his contract, which earns him three hundred thousand pounds per week.
Speaking about Sancho’s future last week, Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca said: “From now on we are going to sit with the club and decide what happens for next year.”
