Chelsea have finalized the signing of Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap after activating a £30 million release clause in his contract.
The clause became valid following Ipswich’s relegation from the Premier League, allowing the Blues to swoop in and bolster their frontline under new manager Enzo Maresca.
Delap, 22, was a standout performer in his debut Premier League season, netting 12 goals and adding 2 assists across 37 matches for Ipswich. His form attracted interest from Manchester United, Newcastle, and Everton, but Chelsea moved swiftly to seal the deal.
The England U21 international has agreed to a contract that runs until 2031, pending a medical that was scheduled for Monday.
As part of the transfer, Manchester City—Delap’s former club—will receive 30% of the fee due to a sell-on clause in the deal that took him to Ipswich. However, City have opted not to activate their buy-back option.
