Kevin De Bruyne has officially joined Napoli on a free transfer following his departure from Manchester City, marking a new chapter in the Belgian midfielder’s illustrious career.
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis confirmed the deal on Thursday, sharing a photo of himself and De Bruyne shaking hands with the caption, “Welcome Kevin!” on social media.
The 33-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the option of a third, and will team up with fellow Belgian Romelu Lukaku and former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay at the Serie A champions.
De Bruyne spent ten highly successful years at Manchester City, winning six Premier League titles and playing a pivotal role in the club’s historic Champions League victory in 2023. However, recurring hamstring injuries limited his appearances in recent seasons.
Now fit and ready, De Bruyne joins Antonio Conte’s side as Napoli prepare to defend their Serie A crown and face the added challenge of Champions League football. Napoli won the Scudetto on the final day of the season, narrowly edging Inter Milan, who struggled with a congested schedule that included a 5-0 loss to PSG in the Champions League final.
With European football back on Napoli’s agenda, the addition of one of Europe’s most creative midfielders is seen as a major boost to their ambitions.
