UEFA has dismissed Real Madrid’s appeal against the disciplinary sanctions handed to Kylian Mbappé, Antonio Rüdiger, and Dani Ceballos for improper conduct during their Champions League round-of-16 clash against Atlético Madrid on March 12.
The European football body upheld the original fines:
- Rüdiger: €40,000
- Mbappé: €30,000
- Ceballos: €20,000
Both Rüdiger and Mbappé have also received one-match bans, which will only be enforced in the event of repeat misconduct.
The sanctions, initially announced on April 4, followed UEFA’s disciplinary investigation into Madrid’s post-match celebrations after their penalty shootout win at the Metropolitano Stadium.
Rüdiger was caught on camera making a throat-slitting gesture towards Atlético fans, while Mbappé was seen grabbing his crotch during the celebrations. Ceballos was punished for allegedly provoking the home crowd.
UEFA’s appeal body concluded that there were no grounds to reverse the penalties.
