Nigeria’s U20 national team, the Flying Eagles, delivered a commanding performance on Saturday, July 13, 2025, with a 4-1 thrashing of Benin Republic in their second group game of the WAFU-B U20 Boys’ Cup currently taking place in Ghana.
After a nervy start that saw Benin take the lead through Junior Olugbade in the 23rd minute, Nigeria responded with class and firepower. Abdoulahi Abiodun pulled the Flying Eagles level in the 38th minute before Ezekiel Anthony gave Nigeria the lead just three minutes into the second half.
As the match progressed, Nigeria maintained control and sealed the win with two late goals. Imrana Muhammad extended the lead in the 87th minute, and Abduljelil Mustapha capped it off in stoppage time (90+4′) to make it 4-1.
The result puts Nigeria on four points in Group A, following their 1-1 draw with Ghana in the tournament opener. With this dominant victory, the Flying Eagles are in a strong position to qualify for the semifinals as they continue their push for WAFU glory and a spot in the U20 Africa Cup of Nations.
Nigeria will now look to seal qualification in their final group match, with confidence and momentum firmly on their side.
