Arsenal Finalise Deal to Sign Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting Lisbon
Arsenal have completed an agreement with Sporting Lisbon to sign Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres in what is expected to be one of the club’s biggest transfer moves of the summer window.
After weeks of negotiations, both clubs have agreed on a total package worth €73.5 million. The deal includes a fixed fee of €63.5 million and an additional €10 million in performance-based add-ons. Gyökeres, 26, has also agreed personal terms with Arsenal, signing a five-year contract that will keep him at the Emirates Stadium until 2030.
Sources close to the deal revealed that Gyökeres’ agents played a key role in ensuring the transfer went through by reducing their commission demands to meet Arsenal’s financial conditions. This compromise allowed the Premier League side to finalise negotiations quickly and avoid potential delays.
The Swedish international emerged as Arsenal’s top target following an impressive season with Sporting, where he scored 29 goals and provided 9 assists across all competitions. Known for his power, work rate, and clinical finishing, Gyökeres is seen as the ideal striker to lead the line for Mikel Arteta’s team next season.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been keen to bolster his attacking options after falling short in the title race last season. With Gabriel Jesus struggling with injuries and inconsistency, the addition of Gyökeres is expected to provide a more reliable goal-scoring presence in the final third.
This signing also signals Arsenal’s intent to compete at the highest level both domestically and in Europe. The Gunners will return to the UEFA Champions League this season and see Gyökeres as a key piece of their tactical and physical evolution.
Barring any late complications, Gyökeres is expected to be unveiled as an Arsenal player in the coming days, with a medical scheduled to be completed before the weekend.
The arrival of the former Coventry City forward marks another significant statement from Arsenal in the transfer market as they look to close the gap on Manchester City and end their long wait for a Premier League title.
