Real Madrid are reportedly preparing to offload three senior members of their squad during the current summer transfer window, signaling a possible reshuffle ahead of the new season.
Spanish outlet Diario AS claims that the trio of David Alaba, Ferland Mendy, and Rodrygo have all been made available for transfer as the club looks to trim its squad and raise funds for future signings. The report suggests that the decision was made after careful internal deliberations, with head coach Xabi Alonso believed to have endorsed the move in line with his vision for a more balanced and efficient squad.
However, parting ways with these experienced players may prove more complicated than expected. Real Madrid have reportedly proposed an early termination of David Alaba’s contract by offering him a partial settlement fee, but the Austrian defender turned down the offer. Alaba, who joined from Bayern Munich, is said to be determined to remain in Madrid and compete for his place in the team.
Rodrygo’s situation is less clear. Although he has been a regular feature in previous seasons and played a key role in important matches, his form in recent months has dipped. With the arrival of Kylian Mbappe and increased competition in the attacking line, his future at the Bernabeu has become uncertain. Club sources suggest that unless Rodrygo adapts to a new role or accepts reduced game time, he could be sold if the right offer comes in.
Ferland Mendy, on the other hand, has long struggled to convince the Madrid hierarchy due to recurring injuries and inconsistent performances. The club is believed to be exploring other options for the left-back position, and Mendy may be sacrificed to make way for a new signing. He was previously linked with a move to the Premier League, and several English clubs are reportedly monitoring his situation.
All three players were notably left out of the squad that faced Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-final of the FIFA Club World Cup a few weeks ago, raising more questions about their current standing within the team. Their absence from such a crucial fixture has further fueled speculation that they are not part of Alonso’s core plans for the 2025-2026 campaign.
While no official bids have been confirmed, Real Madrid are said to be listening to offers for all three players. The club’s leadership is aware that the current window may be the best time to cash in, especially as they continue to rebuild and invest in younger talent with long-term potential.
At the moment, there is no guarantee that Alaba, Mendy, or Rodrygo will feature prominently in the new season. Their futures remain in limbo, and unless significant changes occur in the coming weeks, it’s likely that one or more of them could leave the Spanish capital before the transfer window slams shut.
As always with Real Madrid, the transfer market remains unpredictable. But what is clear now is that even long-serving players are not immune to change, especially under the watch of a new manager looking to stamp his authority on one of the world’s most demanding football clubs.
