Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have climbed to 8th place in the latest FIBA Women’s World Rankings, cementing their status as the undisputed queens of African basketball.
The reigning African champions, who have now lifted the Women’s AfroBasket trophy a record seven times, including an incredible run of five straight titles capped off in 2025, continue to dominate the continental scene. Their consistent success has also booked them a spot at the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup.
While the U.S. still leads the global standings, Belgium has broken into the top five following their EuroBasketWomen triumph, and South Sudan made headlines as the biggest movers, leaping 31 spots to 55th. Meanwhile, Great Britain slipped to 22nd.
For D’Tigress, this latest ranking is not just a number, it is a reflection of years of hard work, dominance in Africa, and growing respect on the world stage.
