Liverpool’s pursuit of Alexander Isak has reached a decisive stage, with the club reportedly telling Newcastle United that they will only wait until the end of this week to strike a deal before switching their attention elsewhere.
The Reds have admired the Swedish striker for some time and stepped up their interest this summer after Isak signaled his desire to leave St. James’ Park. His refusal to commit to Newcastle has already seen him dropped from Eddie Howe’s squad, most recently absent in the goalless draw with Aston Villa.
Liverpool tested Newcastle’s resolve with a £110m bid, but the Magpies have so far stood firm in insisting the 24-year-old is not for sale. Reports in England suggest that Isak has made it clear he will not feature for Newcastle again, even if the club block his move. That stance has created growing tension, with suggestions he could face internal sanctions for refusing to play.
Journalist Sacha Tavolieri claims Liverpool’s hierarchy do not want the saga dragging on, and have drawn a line under negotiations. If no breakthrough is achieved this week, the Anfield side are prepared to move for other options before the transfer window closes.
While Isak’s future remains uncertain, Liverpool are also active on another front. Talks continue with Crystal Palace for centre-back Marc Guehi. According to Fabrizio Romano, an agreement on personal terms with the England international is already in place, leaving negotiations between the two clubs as the final hurdle. Liverpool believe Guehi is open to the move, and if a deal is not completed this summer, the door remains open for a transfer further down the line.
The developments reechoes Arne Slot’s determination to reshape his squad ahead of the new season. With pressure building and time running short, this week could prove pivotal in determining whether Liverpool land their top striker target or are forced to look elsewhere.
