NPFL Matchday Three Wrap: Remo Stars grind past Warri Wolves as Rangers, Wikki shine
Remo Stars underlined their title credentials with a gritty 1-0 win over Warri Wolves on Sunday at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta. Samson Olasupo’s late strike in the 78th minute finally broke the resistance after the champions had spent much of the game battering at the Wolves’ defense.
Ibrahim Abubakar’s free-kick, a Chilekwu header, and Samuel Anakwe’s thunderous effort against the crossbar all kept fans on edge in a frustrating first half. But it was Olasupo who latched onto Haruna Hadi’s clever through ball to seal back-to-back victories for Daniel Ogunmodede’s men. With the result, Remo remain unbeaten after three games and sit joint top of the NPFL standings alongside Wikki Tourists on seven points.
Elsewhere, Rangers turned on the style with a 2-0 win over Plateau United, while Shooting Stars’ struggles continued as they were held 1-1 at home by Ikorodu City, extending their winless streak to three. Wikki Tourists also edged Abia Warriors 1-0 to keep pace at the top, while Kwara United impressed with a 2-0 triumph over Kun Khalifat FC.
Enyimba and Rivers United were both held to goalless draws by Nasarawa United and El Kanemi Warriors respectively, while Katsina United edged rivals Kano Pillars 1-0 in a tense northern derby.
