Ruben Amorim under pressure as Man City deepen Manchester United’s struggles
Manchester United’s season took another damaging hit as they fell 3-0 to Manchester City in Sunday’s derby, leaving Ruben Amorim facing renewed scrutiny over his future at Old Trafford.
Phil Foden struck before half-time and Erling Haaland added two more after the break, condemning United to their fourth defeat in five league matches. Amorim’s side have only managed a single win this campaign—a narrow 3-2 success against promoted Burnley—and also crashed out of the League Cup to League Two’s Grimsby Town.
The result piles more misery on the Red Devils, who are coming off their worst-ever Premier League season. Sky Sports pundits Roy Keane and Micah Richards weighed in on the situation, with contrasting tones.
Richards, a former City defender, offered some sympathy for Amorim’s predicament but admitted results cannot be ignored. “I hate talking about managers losing their jobs, but what’s happening isn’t working. The points return since he arrived is worse than some of the poorest sides we’ve seen. At Manchester United, that’s simply not good enough,” he said.
Keane, meanwhile, questioned whether Amorim can command full commitment from his squad. “It’s hope more than belief right now. Week in, week out, the performances don’t convince me. My worry is that the players aren’t truly buying into what he’s asking. That’s a major concern.”
United must quickly regroup with Chelsea visiting Old Trafford on Saturday evening before an away trip to Brentford.
