Arsenal maintained their perfect start to the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League campaign with a solid 2-0 victory over Olympiakos at the Emirates Stadium on Matchday 2.
Gabriel Martinelli broke the deadlock after just 12 minutes, reacting quickest to a rebound after Viktor Gyökeres’ strike was pushed onto the post by goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis. The Brazilian forward, now enjoying a strong run of form, has scored in three of his last five games for the Gunners.
Olympiakos’ main attacking threat, Ayoub El Kaabi, briefly thought he had equalised midway through the second half, but his close-range finish was ruled out for offside after David Raya had initially saved his header.
With time running out, Bukayo Saka sealed the win in stoppage time. A neat exchange with Martin Ødegaard put him through on goal, and he slotted the ball through Tzolakis’ legs to wrap up all three points.
The result ended Arsenal’s unwanted run of three straight home defeats to Olympiakos in European competition and extended their unbeaten streak in the Champions League league phase to six matches. Defensively, Mikel Arteta’s men once again showed their resilience as Arsenal have conceded fewer goals per game than any other side to feature in the past two Champions League seasons.
The Gunners will now turn their focus to Matchday 3, where they face a tough test at home against Atlético Madrid.
