Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim, has insisted he is not worried about losing his job at Old Trafford despite the team’s poor form this season.
Speaking ahead of a crucial Premier League clash with Sunderland on Saturday, Amorim addressed growing speculation about his future, making it clear that his focus remains on improving results rather than fearing the sack.
The Red Devils head into the fixture on the back of a disappointing 3-1 defeat at Brentford, a result that has left them languishing in 14th place after six matches. United’s struggles have already prompted questions from fans and pundits about the manager’s tactics and whether he is the right man to turn things around.
However, Amorim defended his system, stressing that the biggest pain for him is seeing his team lose, not the possibility of being fired.
He said: “Because the worst thing in this job is to not win games. That is the same feeling I had in Casa Pia when I lost in the third division.
“And then it’s a job. Of course, it’s a dream to be here. And I want to continue here. And I want to fight for this.
“But the problem is now, what makes me suffer is to lose games, not to lose my job.
“You fear losing your job when you have to pay the bills, and I don’t have that feeling.”
The Portuguese coach also underlined his commitment to Manchester United’s project, insisting that he is ready to face criticism head-on and prove himself in the toughest league in the world.
“I know what this club means. I know the expectations are high and I embrace that pressure,” Amorim added. “The results have not been good enough, but I believe in the players and in what we are trying to build. The only way forward is to keep working and to start winning games.”
Amorim’s men will be desperate for three points against Sunderland to ease the pressure and climb up the Premier League table. Anything less could see speculation over his future intensify in the coming weeks.
