Super Falcons forward Ifeoma Onumonu has officially announced her retirement from professional football at the age of 31.
Onumonu, who began her international career with the United States at the U-23 level before switching allegiance to Nigeria, confirmed the news in an emotional statement shared on her Instagram page.
“It is with a heart full of gratitude that I bid farewell to my playing career on the pitch,” the striker wrote.
The versatile attacker enjoyed a career that saw her represent several clubs across the United States and Europe, with her final professional stint coming at French side Montpellier.
On the international stage, Onumonu played a key role for the Super Falcons, including being part of the squad that clinched the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title. Her performances for Nigeria earned her recognition as a hard-working forward capable of creating and finishing chances.
Her retirement marks the end of a journey that spanned more than a decade, during which she inspired young girls across Nigeria and beyond with her resilience, professionalism, and passion for the game.
Though stepping away from the pitch, Onumonu leaves behind a lasting legacy as one of the players who contributed significantly to the growth and visibility of women’s football in Nigeria.
