Bayelsa United’s management has placed both players and coaches under intense pressure after issuing a two-game ultimatum in response to the team’s disappointing run in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).The club’s chairman, Dr. Tarilaye Nwankwe, made the announcement during an emergency meeting with the team at their Yenagoa base on Wednesday. According to a statement released by the club’s media department, the decision was taken after a string of poor results that have seen the Prosperity Boys record just one victory in their last seven league outings. The ultimatum begins with this weekend’s clash against Warri Wolves in Ozoro and will extend to the home fixture against Plateau United on October 31, 2025.Nwankwe expressed deep concern over the team’s recent performance, particularly their lackluster display against newly-promoted Kun Khalifat last weekend. He reminded the players that the Bayelsa State Government has made major financial commitments to the club, adding that it was time for those investments to produce tangible results.“We’ve come to a point where excuses are no longer acceptable. The club has received significant support, and it must now be reflected in results on the pitch,” he warned. “This is not about punishment, but about accountability and our shared vision of turning Bayelsa United into one of the top clubs in Nigeria.”He further stressed that the management would no longer tolerate underwhelming performances from either players or technical staff.Meremu Okara’s men now face a defining moment in their campaign, with their next two fixtures potentially determining the fate of several within the club’s ranks.
