Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has boosted the morale of the Super Falcons with a generous donation of ₦50 million ahead of their crucial 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier against Benin Republic.
The nine-time African champions, who secured a 2-0 victory over the Amazons in the first leg, will host their West African rivals in the return fixture at the Moshood Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta later today (Tuesday).
During a courtesy visit to the governor’s office in Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, on Monday, Governor Abiodun commended the team for their dedication and impressive performance, noting that the financial reward was both a token of appreciation and a motivation to spur them to greater success.
“You have made Nigeria proud time and again,” Abiodun said. “This gesture is to recognize your efforts and to encourage you to continue flying our flag high. We believe in you and know you will finish the job against Benin Republic.”
Head coach Justin Madugu and his players expressed gratitude for the governor’s support, pledging to deliver a convincing performance in front of their home fans.
The decisive encounter is scheduled to kick off at 4 p.m. (Nigerian time) in Abeokuta, with the Super Falcons looking to seal their place in the next round of the WAFCON qualifiers.
