Uganda’s head coach Paul Put has expressed admiration for the quality of the Nigerian national team while insisting his side will not be intimidated when they face the Super Eagles at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Cranes are drawn in Group C alongside Nigeria, Tunisia and Tanzania, and will round off their group stage campaign against the three-time African champions at the Fez Stadium.
Speaking to CAF’s official website, the Belgian tactician praised the Super Eagles for their depth, experience and overall quality, describing them as one of Africa’s most dangerous teams.
“Nigeria is always a powerhouse in African football,” Put said. “They have threats everywhere on the pitch, from their attackers to midfielders, with top talent and great European experience.”
Despite acknowledging the challenge posed by Nigeria, Put maintained that Uganda would not be overwhelmed by the caliber of opposition in the group.
“We’ll respect all the teams, but we won’t go into any match with fear,” he continued. “Tunisia are very well organized, and Tanzania bring a lot of energy and familiarity. But we’re focused on giving a good account of ourselves.”
Uganda’s clash with Nigeria is expected to be one of the most anticipated fixtures in Group C as the Cranes aim to cause an upset against one of the tournament favorites.
