Premier League leaders Arsenal continued their relentless cruise at the top of the table today, securing a commanding 2-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor. Two decisive first-half headers from Viktor Gyokeres and Declan Rice were enough to seal the victory, extending the Gunners’ lead and their winning streaks.
The result marks Arsenal’s ninth consecutive win in all competitions and their fifth straight victory in the Premier League. The three points move Mikel Arteta’s side to a seven-point cushion ahead of second-placed AFC Bournemouth.
First-Half Headers Settle the Contest
Arsenal wasted no time asserting their dominance, demonstrating why they are currently the league’s most effective side from dead-ball situations. The opening goal arrived in the 14th minute:
14′ – Viktor Gyokeres: Arsenal’s set-piece expertise was on full display as Declan Rice’s deep, inswinging corner found Gabriel Magalhaes at the back post. The Brazilian cushioned his volley into the path of Gyokeres, who netted from close range to score his fourth league goal of the campaign and put an end to a brief five-game goal drought.
The visitors were in cruise control and doubled their lead with a magnificent counter-attack shortly after.
34′ – Declan Rice: Clearing a Burnley long throw, Arsenal launched a lightning-quick move. Gyokeres delivered a superb cross-field pass to Leandro Trossard, who then clipped a precise ball toward the penalty spot for Rice. The influential midfielder powered a header past Burnley keeper Martin Dubravka to score his second goal of the season.
Defensive Solidity Maintains Perfect Record
Despite a quieter second half, with Gyokeres making way for Mikel Merino at the break, Arsenal’s control was never truly threatened. They showed exceptional defensive resolve, securing an impressive seventh consecutive clean sheet in the league. Burnley’s best effort came at the death when Marcus Edwards’ free-kick rattled the post, but it was too little, too late.
The defeat sees Burnley drop to 17th place, just four points above the relegation zone.
Up Next
Arsenal will quickly turn their attention to European action, with a Champions League clash against Slavia Prague in Czechia scheduled for Tuesday, November 4th, before returning to Premier League duty away to Sunderland on Sunday, November 8th.
