Nasarawa United and Abia Warriors are set for major tests today as the Nigeria Premier Football League resumes with two heavyweight fixtures that could reshape the early title race.
Rivers United will welcome leaders Nasarawa United to the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, while Niger Tornadoes face Abia Warriors in Minna.
Rivers United are still trying to build momentum, especially after dropping points midweek against Ikorodu City. Finidi George’s side have struggled to turn possession into goals this season and remain stuck in ninth place with 13 points. The former Champions League semi-finalists now need a big result at home to stay within reach of the leading pack.
Nasarawa United travel full of confidence after a solid start to the campaign. The Solid Miners have shown discipline, balance, and efficiency in their play, and currently sit top of the log. But with their advantage now slim, the leaders cannot afford to slip in Port Harcourt with sides like Abia Warriors and Warri Wolves closing in.
In Minna, Niger Tornadoes will look to continue their steady rise when they battle Abia Warriors in what appears to be a tactical matchup with possible top-four implications. Tornadoes’ recent resurgence has been driven by outstanding goalkeeping performances from Ifeanyi Nchekwube, who has kept four clean sheets in ten games since arriving from Inter Lagos.
Abia Warriors, one of the league’s most fluid attacking sides this season, are aiming to prove they are genuine title contenders yet again. A victory in Minna could lift them even closer to the top spot and increase the pressure on Nasarawa United.
Both blockbuster fixtures will kick off simultaneously at 4pm and will be broadcast live on NPFL-Live, Propel Sports and FRCN Radio.
