Enyimba finally ended their five match winless streak after securing a 2-0 victory over Kano Pillars in the Zobia Derby on Matchday 11 of the NPFL.
John Bassey put the home side ahead in the 29th minute with a powerful header. Minutes later, Edidiong Ezekiel took full advantage of a defensive mistake, went past goalkeeper Abuchi and calmly finished into an open net to double the lead. It was his second goal in nine NPFL outings this season.
Their last win before this was the 2-1 triumph against Bendel Insurance on September 21. This result comes as a huge relief to coach Stanley Eguma.
For Kano Pillars, the season continues to go from bad to worse. They are still dealing with their home ban in Kano, the three point deduction and the ongoing poor run. Their last win came on October 8 against Kwara United. New technical adviser Muhammad Babaganaru is still searching for his first victory since taking over.
In Minna, Abia Warriors climbed to the top of the table after defeating Niger Tornadoes 2-1. Sunday Megwo fired in the opener and an own goal by Sunday Akinmoladun increased the advantage before the break. Abdulrasheed Dabai pulled one back but it was not enough to stop Imama Amapakabo’s team from taking all three points and going top on 21 points. Tornadoes now sit fifth with 17 points.
In Port Harcourt, Rivers United returned to winning form as Timothy Zachariah scored a brilliant long range goal just before halftime to give them a 1-0 win over Nasarawa United. Rivers had gone three straight league games without a win before this fixture. They move to eighth place on 16 points while Nasarawa drop to second with 19 points.
