Junior Aimufua was the star of the afternoon in Ilorin as his two goals powered Kwara United to a dominant 3–1 victory over Remo Stars in their NPFL Matchday 11 clash on Saturday.
The win keeps the Harmony Boys’ impressive form going under newly appointed head coach Brazil. Kwara United have now gone unbeaten in three straight league games, winning both of their last two fixtures.
Aimufua gave the home fans reason to celebrate when he broke the deadlock in the 29th minute, finishing calmly to hand Kwara United the lead before halftime.
After the restart, the hosts continued to control proceedings. Babatunde Bright extended the advantage in the 74th minute, before Aimufua struck again in the 87th minute to complete his brace and confirm all three points for the Ilorin-based club.
Remo Stars found a consolation at the death through Jabbar Malik in added time, but the goal did little to change the outcome as Kwara United comfortably sealed the outcome.
The loss compounds Remo Stars’ recent struggles. After being humiliated 7–1 by Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League, they have now suffered three straight defeats across all competitions and are still searching for spark and rhythm.
Meanwhile in Benin City, Bendel Insurance’s rough start to the campaign extended as they were held to a 1–1 draw by Warri Wolves at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
Insurance took an early lead inside the opening 10 minutes thanks to Alex Oweilayefa, but Othuke Egbo equalised for Wolves in the 41st minute. The visitors then held firm throughout the second half to secure a point on the road.
Despite a recent technical overhaul, Insurance remain stuck in a difficult run — just one win so far this season and three draws in their last five league matches.
Warri Wolves, on the other hand, continue to show signs of progress as their away results keep improving. A point in Benin again underlines a team capable of matching top-flight sides and growing in confidence as the campaign continues.
