Rivers United head coach, Finidi George, has voiced his disappointment following the club’s heavy defeat to Pyramids FC in their CAF Champions League Group A encounter on Saturday.
The Port Harcourt side were outclassed 3-0 at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo, with all three goals scored by Ahmed Atef El Sayed in the second half.
Rivers United matched the Egyptian giants before the break, but their performance dipped badly afterward, allowing the hosts to take full control.
Speaking after the game, Finidi explained that costly errors and wastefulness in front of goal ruined their chances.
“We had good moments in the game, especially in the first half,” he said. “But we couldn’t make our chances count. Their opening goal came from our defensive mistake, and once a team like this gets ahead, they grow more confident. The second goal killed our rhythm, and from that point, it was difficult to come back.”
The defeat leaves Rivers United with plenty of work to do as the group stage progresses.
