Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso has brushed aside growing speculation linking him with an impending dismissal, insisting his attention remains firmly on the club’s upcoming Champions League fixture.
Alonso addressed the media following Los Blancos’ 2–0 defeat to Celta Vigo at the Santiago Bernabéu on Sunday, a match in which Williot Swedberg’s brace handed the visitors a shock victory.
The result sparked reports suggesting the Madrid board was considering making a managerial change. But Alonso, speaking after the game, made it clear he was not paying attention to such rumours.
When asked about the possibility of being removed from his position, the former Bayer Leverkusen boss said his priority was preparing for Wednesday’s clash against Manchester City.
“I’m not thinking about any rumours concerning my future. My focus is on the next match,” he said.
He added that despite recent setbacks, the squad remained together and committed: “We are all united.”
The defeat leaves Real Madrid trailing LaLiga leaders Barcelona by four points.
