Preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations gathered further momentum on Monday as more players arrived at the Super Eagles’ training camp in Cairo, Egypt, pushing the number of players currently in camp to ten.
Among the latest players to report for duty are defender Semi Ajayi, winger Ademola Lookman and versatile full-back Bright Osayi-Samuel, all of whom are expected to play key roles in Nigeria’s AFCON campaign. They were also joined by defender Igho Ogbu, goalkeeper Amas Obasogie and midfielder Tochukwu Nnadi, further boosting the options available to the coaching crew.
The new arrivals have linked up with the early set of players already settled in camp, which includes goalkeepers Francis Uzoho and Stanley Nwabali, as well as midfielders Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Ebenezer Akinsanmiro. The presence of both experienced internationals and younger players is expected to help create balance and healthy competition within the squad as preparations intensify.
Despite the growing numbers, team officials confirmed that 18 invited players are still expected to arrive in camp in the coming days. Their arrival is anticipated to complete the full training group ahead of the final phase of preparations for the continental showpiece.
Head coach Eric Sékou Chelle is scheduled to take charge of the team’s first official training session later today, marking the start of full on-pitch activities. The session is expected to focus on fitness, tactical organisation and reintegrating players who have just arrived after club commitments.
The Super Eagles will test their readiness when they take on seven-time African champions Egypt in an international friendly on Tuesday. The encounter will take place at the Cairo International Stadium and is expected to provide Chelle with an early opportunity to assess his squad, try out combinations and fine-tune his plans ahead of the AFCON tournament.
