Spanish TV analyst Jota Jordi has publicly criticized Lionel Messi over his ballot for the FIFA Best Awards.
Messi’s choices sparked debate after he selected Ousmane Dembele as his top pick for the men’s prize. He then placed Kylian Mbappe second, with Lamine Yamal coming in third.
Reacting on Spanish television, Jordi said the order was hard to understand, especially Mbappe being ranked ahead of Yamal. He described the decision as a slight against the young Barcelona star.
Calling it “a betrayal,” Jordi stressed that Yamal’s importance to Barcelona should have counted for more, particularly when compared to a Real Madrid player being ranked above him.
Despite the criticism, Yamal enjoyed a strong year. He finished runner-up in the 2025 Ballon d’Or standings behind Dembele, following a season in which Barcelona secured a domestic double.
