Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has emphasized the importance of beginning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on a positive note as Nigeria prepare to face Tanzania in their opening match.
The three time African champions will square off against the Tanzania Taifa Stars in Fès on Tuesday in their first outing of AFCON 2025.
Nigeria have also been drawn alongside the Tunisia Carthage Eagles and the Uganda Cranes, with only the top two teams in the group certain of progressing to the Round of 16.
Speaking ahead of the encounter, Chelle said his players understand how crucial the opening game is to their campaign.
“Our first match is very important in a tournament like this,” Chelle said during a press briefing in Fès. “We are happy to be here and our objective is to win.”
The other group match on Tuesday will see Tunisia take on Uganda as the battle for early momentum begins.
