Super Eagles midfielder, Raphael Onyedika, has opened up on how he found the back of the net twice during Nigeria’s 3–1 win over Uganda at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Onyedika was the standout performer in the Group C encounter, scoring both goals in the second half as Nigeria wrapped up a perfect group-stage campaign. His impressive display earned him the Man of the Match award at the Fez Stadium.
The Club Brugge star was full of praise for Samuel Chukwueze, noting that the winger played a key role in both goals. According to Onyedika, their understanding on the pitch was no coincidence but the result of deliberate work on the training ground.
He explained that the movements leading to the goals were rehearsed repeatedly in training, stressing the importance of quick decision-making and anticipation during matches.
Onyedika added that he knows Chukwueze’s style very well, especially his tendency to beat defenders and cut the ball back into dangerous areas. By positioning himself correctly, he was able to take full advantage when the chances came.
Reflecting on his Man of the Match recognition, the midfielder described the moment as deeply emotional, saying it was a reward for years of hard work and perseverance.
Nigeria’s victory over Uganda ensured the Super Eagles finished top of Group C with nine points from three matches, booking their place in the knockout stage of the tournament.
