Players of Nigeria’s Super Eagles will not be granting interviews to journalists during Thursday’s open training session, team officials have announced.
The development was disclosed by the squad’s media officer, Promise Efoghe, who said the decision was taken following recent internal events.
Although members of the press will still be allowed to observe the session, their access has been limited to just 15 minutes.
Efoghe explained that the move is connected to happenings over the last few days, including the disagreement over bonuses that resulted in the team arriving late in Marrakech, the venue for their Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final encounter with Algeria.
“In light of recent developments, including the delayed arrival in Marrakech, all player interactions previously planned for today have been cancelled,” Efoghe stated.
He also appealed to journalists to respect the players’ wish to remain silent for now.
“We ask that the media understand and honour the team’s decision not to speak at this moment,” he added.
