The Federal Government has commended Nigeria’s Super Eagles for their performance at the Africa Cup of Nations, even after their painful semi-final defeat to Morocco.
Nigeria were eliminated after a tense encounter that ended goalless across regulation time and extra time, before Morocco triumphed 4–2 in the penalty shootout. Samuel Chukwueze and Bruno Onyemaechi were unable to convert their spot-kicks for the Super Eagles.
Reacting after the match, the Ministry of Information and National Orientation issued a statement praising the team’s effort and commitment throughout the tournament.“Dear Super Eagles, we appreciate your passion, sacrifice, and the honour with which you represented Nigeria,” the statement read.
“Despite the disappointment, you showed resilience, unity, and determination-qualities that reflect the true spirit of our nation.“Football comes with moments of joy and heartbreak, but your discipline, hard work, and fighting spirit during this competition earned you the admiration of Nigerians at home and abroad.“You reminded us that the green and white jersey stands for courage, togetherness, and perseverance.
Keep your heads up, take lessons from this journey, remain united, and return stronger.“Nigeria remains proud of you and grateful for the excitement, hope, and pride you gave the nation throughout this tournament. Well done, Super Eagles. The country stands firmly with you.”The Super Eagles’ campaign, though ending just short of the final, has continued to draw reactions from fans, celebrities, and public figures across the country.
