President of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Ibrahim Gusau, has firmly denied reports suggesting he was involved in a heated confrontation with Fouzi Lekjaa, the president of the Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).
Reports circulating online had alleged that Gusau and Lekjaa engaged in a tense exchange during a recent Confederation of African Football, CAF, Executive Committee meeting held in Morocco. The claims sparked widespread discussion, especially in the wake of the controversies that surrounded Nigeria and Morocco during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
However, Gusau has moved quickly to set the record straight, dismissing the reports as false and misleading. The NFF boss insisted there was no disagreement of any kind between himself and the Moroccan football chief, stressing that their relationship remains cordial and professional.
In a statement released on the official NFF website on Tuesday, Gusau described the report as baseless.
“I honestly don’t know where the report is coming from,” Gusau said. “Personally, I have always had a very good relationship with Fouzi Lekjaa.”
He further refuted claims of raised voices or hostile exchanges at the CAF meeting.
“There was no shouting, no argument, and no insults thrown at any point,” he added. “Whoever came up with that story was simply engaging in the spreading of total falsehood.”
Gusau’s clarification comes amid heightened scrutiny of football relations between Nigeria and Morocco following a dramatic AFCON campaign. The NFF president urged the public to disregard unverified reports and rely only on credible sources for information concerning Nigerian football administration.
