Hull City have been dealt a significant injury blow with defender Semi Ajayi set to spend time on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring problem.
According to reports, the Nigeria international is expected to be out of action for up to two months after picking up the injury during Nigeria’s third-place match against Egypt at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations last Saturday. Ajayi sustained the knock in added time of the encounter and was unable to continue, forcing his withdrawal from the game.
The experienced centre-back was replaced by Nantes defender Chidozie Awaziem as the Super Eagles saw out the contest.
Subsequent medical examinations have confirmed that Ajayi sustained damage to his hamstring, ruling him out for a prolonged period and putting his immediate availability for club duties in doubt.
The injury comes as a major setback for Hull City, who have already been grappling with a growing injury list in recent weeks, losing several key players at a crucial stage of the season.
Ajayi, 32, only joined the Tigers last summer after leaving West Bromwich Albion as a free agent. He has since become an important figure in Hull City’s defensive setup, making his absence a significant concern for the Championship side as they look to maintain momentum in the league.
