Brazilian midfielder Casemiro has confirmed he will leave Manchester United at the end of the season when his contract expires in June 2026. The club has decided not to activate the one-year extension option in his deal. The 33-year-old joined United from Real Madrid in August 2022 for a reported £70 million on a four-year contract.
In his time so far at Old Trafford, Casemiro has made 146 appearances, scoring 21 goals. He contributed to the team’s successes, including winning the EFL Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.
In a statement, Casemiro expressed his appreciation for the club: “I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life.” He also described himself as a “Forever Red Devil.”
The announcement follows the sacking of manager Ruben Amorim earlier this month on January 5, 2026, after 14 months in charge. Casemiro, who turns 34 in February, has been linked with a potential return to Brazil, including interest from Palmeiras and his boyhood club São Paulo.
Fans and pundits have reflected on Casemiro’s impact, noting his role in providing midfield stability despite recent challenges. As he prepares for his final months at the club, United supporters will hope for strong performances to aid the team’s campaign.
