Chelsea legend John Terry has praised Robert Sanchez’s mentality, claiming the goalkeeper’s reaction after conceding against Crystal Palace showed the type of attitude found in Premier League title winning sides.
Chelsea delivered one of their strongest displays under Liam Rosenior, with Estevao Willian and Joao Pedro impressing in attack despite the absence of Cole Palmer. While the forwards took the spotlight, the defensive unit also played its part, with Trevoh Chalobah and Benoit Badiashile standing firm against Jean Philippe Mateta.
There was some disappointment that Chelsea failed to keep a clean sheet, especially after Crystal Palace were reduced to ten men. Sanchez was visibly upset after the late goal and was seen showing frustration toward teammates during a set piece situation.
Terry, speaking on TikTok, said that reaction was exactly what he wants to see from a competitive team.
“I want to talk about Rob Sanchez. You could see the frustration after conceding late when you’re so close to a clean sheet. He makes a great first save and can’t quite get the second, but that emotion is what I want from my players.
“That disappointment in the group I absolutely love it. This is what builds strong teams. This is the mentality of sides that go on to win Premier League titles. Teams that hate conceding goals.”
Sanchez has recently established himself as Chelsea’s number one following Filip Jorgensen’s injury and has impressed with his consistency. His display against Palace earned praise inside the squad and further boosted his standing with Rosenior, who believes the Spaniard can reach scary levels at Stamford Bridge.
