Former Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi has disclosed the personal advice he gave Victor Osimhen following Napoli’s historic Serie A success.
Osimhen was instrumental in Napoli’s 2022/23 title-winning campaign, ending the club’s long wait for a league crown and establishing himself as one of Europe’s top strikers. However, the seasons that followed were marked by tension between the player and the club’s hierarchy, eventually leading to his exit from Italy.
Speaking about the period after the title celebrations, Onazi revealed that Osimhen paid him a private visit, during which they discussed football and life beyond the pitch. The former Lazio midfielder said he urged Osimhen to consider a new challenge while his stock was at its highest.
According to Onazi, he reminded the striker that he had already achieved everything possible at Napoli and played a decisive role in their success. He added that football can be unforgiving, as admiration can quickly fade if performances dip in the following season.
Onazi explained that his advice was based on experience, stressing that past achievements are often forgotten once results change. In his view, moving on at the right time was the smartest option for Osimhen’s career.
