Super Eagles skipper Ndidi mourns father after tragic road accident
Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has expressed deep sorrow following the passing of his father, Sunday Ndidi.
Reports indicate that Sunday Ndidi lost his life in a fatal road crash on Tuesday in Umunede, a community close to Agbor in Delta State.
Turkish Super Lig side Besiktas, where Ndidi currently plays, confirmed the sad news in an official statement shared on their verified X page.
The 29-year-old midfielder later took to social media to pay an emotional tribute to his late father.
“You spoke to me this morning with so much excitement, but now I realise it was your way of saying goodbye… What about all the plans we made? Are they now just memories? Even when I scored my first goal for the national team, I did that papilo dance for you. You just left like that,” Ndidi wrote on Instagram.
Ndidi, who previously featured for Leicester City, is presently sidelined as he continues his recovery from the injury he picked up during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
