Michael Carrick’s impressive run as interim manager reached a fourth consecutive victory as Manchester United earned a 2-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford. The result piles further pressure on Spurs manager Thomas Frank, whose side appeared beleaguered throughout the contest.
Tottenham had an early opportunity to take the lead when Xavi Simons delivered a clever ball over the top for Conor Gallagher. However, the midfielder could not make enough contact to properly test United goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
The game shifted dramatically just before the half-hour mark when Cristian Romero was shown a straight red card. The Spurs captain was sent off for a rash follow-through that caught Casemiro on the ankle with his studs.
United took advantage of the numerical superiority only seven minutes later following a corner. Kobbie Mainoo worked the ball to Bryan Mbeumo, who placed a composed shot through a crowd of players into the bottom corner for his 10th goal of the season.
The hosts continued to press after the interval and were twice denied by the offside flag. Amad Diallo had a goal ruled out after a cutback from Luke Shaw, and later Bruno Fernandes was caught offside before Matheus Cunha put the ball in the net.
The definitive blow arrived with 10 minutes remaining in the match. Diogo Dalot delivered a brilliant cross to the back post, where Fernandes guided the ball in with his shin to secure the points.
This victory ensures that Manchester United remain firmly in the top four of the Premier League table. Meanwhile, Tottenham’s winless domestic run has now reached eight matches, leaving them in 14th place and potentially close to the relegation zone. # Galaxy Sports Production
