NPFL: Kano Pillars receive N1.3m cash reward after victory over Remo Stars
Kano Pillars have been rewarded with a cash incentive following their crucial Nigeria Premier Football League victory over Remo Stars on matchday 25.
The Sai Masu Gida secured a hard-fought 1–0 win against the Sky Blue Stars at the iconic Sani Abacha Stadium last Sunday, in what proved to be a major boost in their fight to move away from the relegation zone.
Midfielder Luis Dadong emerged as the hero on the day, netting the decisive goal that handed Kano Pillars all three points in front of their home supporters.
Cash Incentive to Boost Morale
In recognition of the important result, the players were presented with a cash reward of N1.3 million (reports indicate N1.4 million was announced during the presentation) as motivation to sustain their push in the remaining fixtures of the season.
The presentation was made by Kabiru Dahiru Sule, Chairman of the Kano State House Committee on Sports, who emphasised the need for the club to rediscover its past glory and reposition itself among Nigeria’s elite sides.
“We want Kano Pillars to return to where it belongs. We have lived too long on past glory, and now is the time to rebuild and rebrand the club to a higher level,” Sule stated while addressing the players.
The financial backing is seen as a morale booster for Mohammed Babaganaru’s side, who have endured an inconsistent campaign this season.
Relegation Battle Intensifies
The victory over league leaders Remo Stars was particularly significant given Pillars’ position on the table. Babaganaru’s men currently sit 17th with 28 points, just above the drop zone, as the relegation battle tightens heading into the final stretch of the season.
Their next assignment will be another high-stakes encounter away to Kwara United in Ilorin this weekend. Kwara United occupy 18th position with 27 points, making the clash a direct battle between two sides desperate to avoid relegation.
With just one point separating both teams, the fixture is expected to have significant implications on the survival race.
The renewed financial support and public backing from state authorities could provide Kano Pillars with the psychological edge needed to build momentum at a critical stage of the NPFL campaign.
