Super Eagles manager, Eric Sekou Chelle, has presented a detailed list of proposed contractual terms following Nigeria’s third place finish at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Chelle, who guided the Nigeria national football team to a bronze medal at the continental tournament, is seeking a comprehensive welfare and operational package as part of his continued leadership of the team.
According to the proposal, the coach is requesting a private Sports Utility Vehicle with a chauffeur and security personnel. He is also asking for accommodation in a well secured environment with 24 hours uninterrupted power supply. The package includes a furnished office equipped with a projector for tactical analysis as well as full internet provision.
The proposal makes provision for flight tickets for his wife and two children, with Chelle and his wife to travel business class while the children travel economy class. He is also requesting GPS provision and the supply of proper technical equipment in accordance with his professional demands.
On football matters, Chelle is seeking the right to determine international friendly matches based on the quality of opponents. The proposal includes structured camping programmes and gives the coach the responsibility to initiate youth development programmes.
He is also requesting approval to travel to watch, monitor and engage national team players abroad. In addition, he wants provision to regularly attend local league matches to identify potential players who can be integrated into the senior national team as well as the U23, U20 and U17 teams.
A key clause in the document states that there must be no interference in team selection and players call up. The proposal also calls on the Nigeria Football Federation to issue formal working contracts for his staff.
Financially, Chelle is demanding that his salary be paid on or before the 30th of every month. He is also requesting bonuses and allowances in line with the federation’s structure, with a specific request that his Personal Assistant be included in the bonus and allowance framework.
The proposed monthly salary is 130,000 dollars, a figure that covers the coach, his technical staff and his Personal Assistant. The document also recommends a monthly meeting involving all national team coaches to ensure coordination and alignment across the various cadres.
The proposal is expected to generate discussions within Nigerian football as stakeholders review the financial and administrative implications of the demands.
