Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone has identified the standout qualities that distinguish Ademola Lookman from the rest of his attacking options.
The Nigerian forward has enjoyed a flying start to life at Atletico Madrid following his January switch from Atalanta. Since arriving in Spain, Lookman has quickly established himself as a key figure in the team’s frontline.
He has registered three goals and two assists in just five appearances across all competitions, underlining his immediate impact for the Rojiblancos.
One of his most notable contributions came in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 playoff first leg, where he found the net in Atletico’s thrilling 3-3 draw against Club Brugge.
Speaking ahead of Saturday night’s LaLiga clash with Espanyol, Simeone praised Lookman’s individual brilliance and attacking edge.
According to the Argentine tactician, Lookman’s strength in one-on-one situations sets him apart from other forwards in the squad.
“He has different qualities compared to our other forwards,” Simeone said during a recent press conference.
“He is more of a specialist in one-on-one situations than in combination play, although he can also combine well. From the moment he arrived, he made a very positive impact on the team.”
Lookman will be eager to maintain his impressive run of form as Atletico continue their push in both domestic and European competitions.
