Benjamin Šeško came off the bench to deliver a decisive moment of quality as Manchester United ground out a 1-0 victory at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday night, propelling them into the Premier League’s top four.
The Slovenian forward notched his eighth goal of the season with a clinical finish in the closing stages, rounding off a swift counter-attack started by the creativity of Matheus Cunha and the electrifying pace of Bryan Mbeumo. It was the only goal in a tense, hard-fought affair that highlighted United’s growing defensive steel and attacking threat on the break.
In goal, summer signing Senne Lammens was outstanding. The goalkeeper produced a series of excellent saves to earn Man of the Match honours, keeping his first clean sheet away from home since May 2025 – United’s first away shutout in that period.
Interim manager Michael Carrick maintained his perfect record since stepping into the role, remaining unbeaten in six games with five wins. His calm leadership has instilled belief and organisation in the squad during a challenging transitional phase.
The result moves United into fourth place, hot on the heels of Arsenal, Manchester City and Aston Villa. With their key summer signings now fully integrated and the team showing real cohesion, the Red Devils are building genuine momentum as they chase a Champions League spot in the run-in.
Carrick’s men return to Manchester with three vital points and rising confidence. For Everton, it was another disappointing evening as they were unable to break down a disciplined United defence.
Monday night’s hard-earned win at Hill Dickinson Stadium could prove to be a significant stepping stone in Manchester United’s resurgence under Carrick. The top-four push is very much alive.
