The Opta SuperComputer has released an updated set of projections for the Premier League title race and top-four battle following Arsenal’s narrow 2-1 win over Chelsea on Sunday evening.
Mikel Arteta’s side made a strong start to the London derby, with William Saliba putting the Gunners ahead. However, Arsenal were briefly pegged back after an unfortunate own goal by Piero Hincapié restored parity for Chelsea. The visitors’ resistance was eventually broken when Jurrien Timber powered home a header from Declan Rice’s well-delivered corner to seal all three points for the North London club.
The victory strengthens Arsenal’s grip at the top of the table, moving them five points clear of defending champions Manchester City. However, the Gunners have played one match more than Pep Guardiola’s side, leaving a slim margin for error as the title race enters its decisive phase.
According to Opta’s latest simulations, Arsenal are now firm favourites to win the Premier League crown, with the SuperComputer assigning them an 83.26 percent probability of finishing as champions. Manchester City’s chances have correspondingly fallen to 16.6 percent, reflecting the growing pressure on the reigning champions to close the gap in the remaining fixtures.
Further down the table, Aston Villa’s outside hopes of mounting a surprise title challenge took a significant hit after their 2-0 defeat away to Wolves. Unai Emery’s men are now given only a 0.08 percent chance of lifting the trophy.
Manchester United, despite showing signs of improvement in recent weeks, remain extreme outsiders in the title conversation. Opta currently rates their chances at just 0.02 percent.
Attention will now shift to the upcoming round of fixtures, where any slip-ups among the leading contenders could yet reshape the SuperComputer’s projections in what has become an increasingly compelling Premier League run-in.
