Victor Osimhen has expressed confidence that Galatasaray S.K. can trouble Liverpool F.C. once more when both sides meet in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League tie at Anfield.
The Turkish champions claimed a slim 1–0 victory in the first leg played at RAMS Park, putting them in a favourable position ahead of the decisive encounter in England.
Osimhen played an influential role in the match and was also at the centre of an emotional moment before kick-off. Supporters of Galatasaray unveiled a special banner in memory of the striker’s late mother, a gesture that visibly moved the Nigerian forward.
Although he admitted that playing at Anfield would present a difficult challenge, Osimhen said he is confident his team can deliver another strong performance.
According to the striker, the victory in Istanbul was significant, but the team understands the task ahead will be far more demanding. He noted that Galatasaray must analyse the first leg, identify their errors and make necessary adjustments before travelling to England.
Osimhen also praised his teammates for their commitment and effort against the Premier League side, saying he was proud of the performance they produced against such a strong opponent.
### Fans’ tribute leaves Osimhen emotional
The Champions League fixture also carried deep personal meaning for the Nigerian international after Galatasaray supporters displayed a large tifo dedicated to his late mother.
Osimhen revealed that the moment was deeply touching for him, recalling that he lost his mother at a very young age. Seeing the tribute, he said, reinforced the strong connection he has developed with the club and its fanbase since moving to Istanbul.
The striker explained that the gesture reminded him that football goes beyond the game itself and reflects the sense of family and unity within the club. He added that the love shown by the supporters motivates him to give his all every time he steps onto the pitch wearing the Galatasaray shirt.
With the narrow first-leg advantage secured, Galatasaray will now head to Anfield hoping to hold off Liverpool and progress to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
