Iran international Hossein Abarghouei has expressed strong belief in his side’s readiness to face Nigeria’s Super Eagles in Friday’s international friendly encounter.
Speaking with Tasnim News Agency, the centre-back highlighted the team’s solid preparation and upbeat atmosphere in camp, stressing that the upcoming fixtures play a crucial role in Iran’s long-term ambitions, particularly their World Cup plans.
Abarghouei noted that the squad has been working hard behind the scenes and is eager to reward their supporters with positive performances against both Nigeria and Costa Rica.
“Our preparations have been going smoothly, and the environment in camp is very encouraging,” he said. “We are determined to make our fans proud with good results, as these matches are important steps toward our World Cup objectives.”
He also dismissed concerns about the team’s limited time together in camp, insisting that players have remained active and maintained peak condition despite recent disruptions.
“Even though our time in Turkey has been short, we’ve trained effectively. These are professional players who have not been idle,” he added. “Everyone has kept fit individually, and we are in good shape to take on Nigeria.”
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles began their training camp in Turkey earlier in the week, initially with 13 players and coaching staff in attendance. The squad later grew to 22 following the arrival of midfielder Wilfred Ndidi.
However, Nigeria suffered a setback with defender Calvin Bassey withdrawing from the squad due to injury.
Both teams will be aiming for a strong showing as they continue preparations for upcoming international competitions. Their last meeting dates back to the 2014 FIFA World Cup, where the match ended in a stalemate during the group stage.
