Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye, will not feature in the upcoming international friendly against Jordan national football team after sustaining a thigh injury during training.
The update was confirmed on Monday by the team’s media officer, Promise Efoghe, who explained that the shot-stopper picked up a knock while preparing for the game.
Okoye had recently rejoined the national team after missing the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. He made an impressive return, playing a key role in Nigeria’s 2-1 win over Iran in the opening match of a four-nation invitational tournament.
With his absence, head coach Eric Chelle now faces limited choices in goal. The responsibility is expected to fall on either Adebayo Adeleye or Francis Uzoho, as Stanley Nwabali was not included in the squad.
The team is also dealing with other challenges ahead of the match. Semi Ajayi is sidelined due to injury, while Bruno Onyemaechi has left camp following the birth of his child.
Nigeria will face Jordan on Tuesday in Antalya, with kickoff set for 6:30 pm Nigerian time. Despite the absences, the fixture offers another opportunity for the Super Eagles to refine their squad and test their depth.
