Victor Osimhen, the in-form striker for Galatasaray, has shared in the excitement following Turkey’s successful qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Turkey sealed their place at the global tournament on Tuesday night after edging Kosovo 1 nil in Pristina. The match was decided by a second half strike from Kerem Akturkoglu, whose goal proved enough to send his country through.
With this result, Turkey emerged as one of the teams to qualify through the European playoffs. They joined Sweden, Czech Republic, and Bosnia and Herzegovina in booking their tickets to the tournament.
The qualification carries special significance for Turkey as it ends a long absence from football’s biggest stage. Their last appearance at the World Cup came in 2002, making this return a major moment for the nation and its supporters.
At the tournament, Turkey will compete in Group D, where they are set to face Paraguay, Australia, and the United States in what promises to be a competitive group.
Following the final whistle, Osimhen joined in the celebrations from afar. The Nigerian international took to Instagram to repost a photo of his Galatasaray teammate, Abdulkerim Bardakci, who was seen proudly waving the national flag in celebration of the achievement.
Rather than using words, Osimhen kept his reaction simple and expressive. He added clapping hands and a heart emoji to the post, a gesture that reflected his admiration and support for both his teammate and the national team’s accomplishment.
